U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently implemented the National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) replacing the UPCS standards. The Housing Quality Standards (HQS) will also be replaced by the NSPIRE standard in the near future. NSPIRE has been in the works for years and is continuing to evolve and improve.

Implementing NSPIRE for the Section 8 voucher programs is in the works. The new inspection standards are much different than the current HQS. Don't risk having your voucher payments delayed due to failed inspections and start preparing now. LITHC (tax-credit) inspections like other federal inspections have migrated to NSPIRE. We are inspecting multi-family properties for State agencies to make sure that they are in compliance.
